Please make sure to read all the important information

Our academy strives to ensure that Kathak is accessible, inclusive, and meaningful by fostering connections among diverse cultures and engaging audiences within the community. Taught by Anvita Sharma, our classes have been running in SoCal since 2007.

What's included:

All classes are 1 hour in length, held once per week. Fees are based on 4 classes per month, paid quarterly and in advance (see explanation of fees for clarification). Classes are kept small, so each student is given individual attention.  If a student misses a class, it is their responsibility to get up to speed on missed material using the class videos if shared that week, alternative homework assignments, or by asking a classmate. I am always available for questions, and once someone becomes my student, I take their growth as part of my responsibility.

Performance opportunities:

Our annual school recital is usually in the Spring. Students are encouraged to attend classes regularly so they can participate and perform in our school show, and other community events.

Holidays:

Our school goes on break for 4 weeks in the summer between June and July and 3 weeks in the winter between December and January. During those times fees are prorated and adjusted. In addition to summer and winter breaks, we also usually take New Years, Christmas, Independence Day, Memorial weekend, Labor Day and Thanksgiving week off.

Twice per year rehearsals, shows, and testing may take place outside of your normal class time, but these are also part of the learning process and require your teacher to be present during her personal time. A lot of time outside of the regular class schedule is required for the instructor to manage these events. Therefore in these situations, rehearsals, shows and testing on alternate days will count as your class for that week.

Fees:

Quarterly fee:

This is based on location and number of classes, please contact Anvita Sharma for price of in-person classes. Online classes are $80/month, in person rates are higher. New students can pay month to month for the first 2 months to get a feel for the classes, after which they will be moved to the 3 month payment cycle with the rest of the school.

**All fees are due on the 23rd of the month prior to the start of the class or quarter. No refunds.

**New students will also need to pay a one time $30 registration fee, however if you register during active enrollment, there may be a promotion to waive the registration fee. Feel free to inquire.

Late Fees:

$15 per month. A late fee of $15 will be added for every month fees are late.

Drop-ins:

We discourage drop-ins but this is an option for experienced students who want to join on a trial basis for less than one month or on a case-by-case basis. This option is only available for existing classes, not new batches that are being formed. Please inquire for drop-in rate.

Family discounts:

$5 off per month per student for those who have siblings in the same class, or $10 off for the second family member. However, the discount can only be extended if fees are paid on time and will not apply to prorated months.

Payment method:

Cash, Venmo (@veganvita), Zelle or PayPal (anvitasharma.kathak@gmail.com), or Bank of America transfer (ask for info acct info)

Links for payment options are also on the "Make a payment" page

Private Lessons:

Dependent on location and travel time if in person. Online privates are $70/hr, In-person local privates are $90/hr. Travel Fees may apply.

Missed classes:

To learn a complex art form like Kathak, weekly attendance and at least 10 minutes of daily practice is required to grow, develop your skills and form muscle memory. If you need to miss a class on occasion, you may attend a different class as a make up, but this must be done within the month of the missed class. Missed classes do not accumulate as credit for future months. It is your responsibility to get up to speed on missed material, so the rest of your class is not held back when you return. Please use the class video from that class if available, class notes and check with your peers for missed material. For any additional guidance, please reach out. You may be given a homework assignment to submit a video of your practice for missing class to ensure you keep up to speed and so your classmates are not held back when you return. If you need additional help you can request a 15 min zoom session (or in person if there is an option) to clarify what you missed four times per year, based on instructor availability. Please keep in mind, with over 100 students at our Academy individual make up sessions are available on a limited basis. If you have paid for the quarter and miss a whole month, you can request a 1 hour private make up lesson, however it is your responsibility to schedule this in a timely manner. Alternatively, you can also attend another class as a make up in any location.

  • "Anvitadi has a lot of knowledge about kathak and it shows in the way she teaches. In addition to being a beautiful dancer, she goes over the steps and movements and makes the class setting very comfortable for students of all ages. She explains very well and is great to learn from! Super glad I found her :)"

  • My name is Rishika and 11 years old. I am learning few forms of dance and got attracted to KATHAK when i saw a performance at a cultural event. I decided to learn this dance form and approched Anvita. She accepted me, and now i have been taking classes with her for few months. I am happy with her teaching method and the way she treats the students. Her attention to details is very impressive. She is commited and a professional master of this dance form, in few months i learned so much from her. I will strongly recommend Anvita to anyone who is interested in learning Kathak.

  • My daughter Anjli has been blessed to be a disciple of Anvita for the last five years. One thing we appreciate the most is how much personal attention, care and guidance our daughter receives from the teacher. The way the art of kathak brought to the students is amazing. Importance is given to all areas of the performing arts, footwork, facial expressions, postures, turns and many more details. Anvita respects the student life these girls have and emphasizes how crucial practice is with flexibility. Students are expected to follow routines and guidelines and they do so because of the professional example modeled by Anvita.
My daughter and I drive for about 12 miles one way every Sunday and feel that it's well worth our drive
